Today we continued to discuss the Believer’s Identity. It was a fast paced with too much information to cover here. You will have to watch the video. But I will cover the highlights.
One of the first things covered is that the Believer’s Identity is the Spirit of God. We all have the same identity, and that comes from one source, Jesus. It can’t found anywhere else. Our identity is not of our making, it has already been given to us. However, it is our job to understand what it is we have been given. Once you understand your identity, you can overcome anything that comes your way. It does not mean that troubles won’t come, you are still renting space in this troubled world. But you will be able to rise up and overcome them. 2 Corinthians 4:16 reminds us that our inward man, our spirit, is renewed each day. When we understand our identity, we are renewed in our knowledge of God. If your identity is based on a world view, you will always be tired and worn down. When we take hold of our identity in Christ, we will not perish because we are constantly renewed.
We were also reminded that our identity is not in based on how we feel. If our identity was based on feelings, it would be forever changing and it would vary from believer to believer. But that is not the case. Our identity is based on what we have been given. Who we are is much more powerful than our feelings. Feelings our fleeting. The power we have through who we are, is not. You must not only know who you are, but WHOSE you are as well (see Acts 27:23). Your identity comes with supernatural support which will allow you to overcome any influence of the devil in your life. To access this power, you must be aware of what it is and how to access it. Being part of the church comes with supernatural protection. The angels watch over us. You heard this as a child, but we were shown this in scripture (see Heb 1:14 which refers to angels as “ministering spirits” and again in Heb 12:22-23. See also Acts 27:23 in which Paul talks about an angel which stood by him). As a believer, when you understand who you are, you automatically activate the ministry of angels.
My last highlight: Don’t doubt who you are. That is what the devil wants you to do. Tell the devil to shut up. Fight the devil with knowledge of the scriptures. Remember Matthew chapters 3 and 4? The devil tried to make Jesus doubt who He is. But Jesus fought off the devil with His knowlege of scripture. We can do the same. You must understand God’s Word to be able to arm yourself properly. There is constantly a battle going on in our minds, and you must know how to fight them to overcome them. We were instructed to see things from Gods point of view. Our identity comes with authority, but that authority will only benefit you if you know who you are, know that you have the authority, know how to use it, and use your words to invoke it (review Mark 11:23).
The enemy, aka the devil, knows who you are. But the question is, do you?
Make this declaration with us!
I have victory, in the name of Jesus
I have victory over Satan, over sickness, over confusion, over depression
In the name of Jesus!
Satan you have no authority over my life, over my family, over my children, over my husband/wife!
Satan, you have no right, and I command you to GO! In the name of Jesus!
I walk in victory! Victory in my mind! Victory in my health!
Thank you Father! In Jesus’ name!
Join us Friday as we continue our discussion on a Believer’s Identity. We still have a ways to go to cover what it is and how to use it! I hope to see you there!
