FOCUS YOUR ATTENTION ON THE WORD
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds
Hebrews 12:2-3
The kind of life God prearranged for us to live demands that we focus on His word perpetually.
The Christian life is dependent on and sustained by the word; that is God’s design, and we need to live as such.
In order to be governed by the word of God, we must focus our attention on the word.
Whatever you focus on or think about often becomes dominant and determines the course of your life.
In other words, your life goes in the direction of your dominant thoughts. If you focus your attention on the word of God, your life will go in the way it has been planned and foretold by the word.
To focus your attention on the word, you must first cherish or appreciate the word.
You must prize and value it more than anything else because your life depends on God’s word.
Job said, “Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food” (Job 23:12).
This should be our attitude towards the word of God. We need to esteem or value and prize or cherish the words of His mouth because we are called to live by the word (Matthew 4:4).
Our Lord Jesus Christ said, “It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life” (John 6:63). His words are spirit and life.
Moreover, it would be best to give yourself absolutely to the word through meditation.
Meditation in God’s word helps you focus on the word, not negative circumstances. Focusing on negative or adverse circumstances causes discouragement.
It hinders one from exercising faith, but when you focus on the word through meditation, you will experience progress in every area of your life, and your progress will be so pronounced that it will become apparent to all.
In 1Timothy 4:15, Paul said to Timothy: “Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all”
To focus on the word is to focus on Jesus because He is the living Word.
Shift your gaze away from any negative circumstance unto Jesus: “Looking away [from all that will distract] to Jesus, Who is the Leader and the Source of our faith [giving the first incentive for our belief] and is also its Finisher [bringing it to maturity and perfection]. He, for the joy [of obtaining the prize] that was set before Him, endured the cross, despising and ignoring the shame, and is now seated at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:2 AMP)
Confession
I look away from every negative circumstance and focus my attention on the word of God. Therefore, my progress is evident to all.
