CHRIST, OUR REDEMPTION-PRICE
For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
1 Timothy 2:5-6
Jesus Christ shed His blood to redeem us. Apostle Paul, while writing to the Ephesians, said, “In whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace” (Ephesians 1:7).
Our redemption was made possible by the blood of Jesus. The shedding of blood was necessary for the remission of sins (Hebrews 9:22).
Unfortunately, the blood of bulls and goats that was shed incessantly for the atonement of the sins of Old Testament folks could not wash away their sins. The writer of the Book of Hebrews said, “For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins” (Hebrews 10:4).
Jesus came and gave His life (that is, shed His blood) for the remission of our sins. What He did, He did for all men everywhere and of every age; however, it is made actual for those who believe.
We are told that Jesus gave Himself a ransom (a redemption price) for ALL, to be testified in due time (1 Timothy 2:6).
In Matthew 20:28, our Lord Jesus Christ said, “Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for MANY”. Here, the Lord said He gave His life a ransom for many as against “all” in 1 Timothy 2:6.
The word “Many” is used because the propitiatory sacrifice of Jesus is made effective for only those who believe. However, the propitiation was originally intended for all (1 John 2:2).
In other words, provision is made for the salvation of everyone so that no one is excluded from the scope of God’s mercy.
However, it takes faith in Christ to receive what has been provided, and faith comes only by hearing the gospel: “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17).
Our worth is found in the price that Jesus paid to have us. He paid the price for our sins by standing in our place in judgment and shed His blood, and His blood is not literal but figuratively used to signify the giving up of His life in the shedding of His blood.
This made Christ our redemption. We no longer belong to ourselves; we belong to God exclusively because we have been bought:
“What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)
Those who have received Christ have been reconciled to God (Romans 5:10) and therefore justified from all things: “And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses” (Acts 13:39).
We have received the benefits of what Jesus died to make available for us by simply believing in our hearts that God raised Him from the dead (Romans 10:9).
Confession
I have been redeemed by the precious blood of Jesus Christ, sanctified and justified from all things. Halleluyah!
